Research security during research activity

Research security is not an abstract concept. It materializes in the everyday activities of research staff, research institutions, and those responsible for R&D funding.

When a collaboration agreement is signed with an international partner, visiting doctoral students are hosted, trips are arranged to international conferences, or access to laboratories or scientific facilities is granted, risks can arise that directly affect projects, results, reputation, and careers. Therefore, it is crucial to incorporate a security dimension into these routine activities: to protect research work without sacrificing international collaboration.

This section presents five practical areas where researchers, universities, research centers and (in some cases) funding agencies may encounter potential risks related to research security.

For each of them, an explanation of its relevance is presented, the specific aspects to consider, possible warning signs, practical examples of security incidents, and possible measures to take.
